Writer and broadcaster Jon Gower will introduce “Spirit of PlacePhotographer Liz Fleming-Williams and sound recordist Simon Fraser launch their new DVD with a screening of Gwesyn, a 30 minute sequence of still images with surround sound, tracing the journey of the river Gwesyn from its source on Drygarn Fawr to its confluence with the river Irfon in Abergwesyn. Gwesyn has been presented at the Hay Literary Festival, the National Library of Wales and at the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology in Mexico City. “Still images with some of the purest sonic impressions of a rural landscape I have ever heard.... immersive and bio-acoustic” Carla Teixeira , National Film and Sound Archive, Australia.

Following the screening one of Britain’s finest essayists and Guardian country diarist Jim Perrin, will talk on the subject of Spirit of Place. He has been described as the pre-eminent writer on the British Landscape (the Observer). His books include Travels with the Flea, Villain, Snowdon: Biography of a Mountain, the Climbing Essays and West: A Journey Through Landscapes of Loss (2010).

‘Spirit of Place’ is presented by the Friends and proceeds from the evening will go to the Wyeside.
